to all the girls who fell down today:

“may the road rise up to meet you

may the wind always be at your back

may the sun shine warm upon your face

and the rain fall soft upon your fields.

and until we meet again my friend,

may God hold you in the palm of his hand.”

– an Irish blessing

i love you girls, even if we weren’t close. stay true.

some lovely, lovely yarn, two FOs and a family yarn find!

after some fascinating anecdotes from every family member of mine, I have concluded that my family does nothing without yarn. and i mean nothing.

My great aunt Mims or Gam, as we would call her, was no exception. Much like my family high school legacy, ours is one of knitting as well (ironically with the same people.)

For Cheesy Sweater Day this Spirit Week I happened upon this in my mother’s closet. A Princess Di sheep sweater! not to mention, I won for that day. Mims made this sweater for my mom years ago. Each sheep is individually colorworked and it is knit on teeny-tiny needles, perhaps 0s or 1s. Its gorgeous!

FO #1: Wonderland Cowl (pattern: honey cowl; yarn: madelinetosh dk in Mansfield Garden Party)

i haven’t taken it off since i finished it. its wonderful, and it goes perfectly with my effortless cardigan!

FO #2: Willow Cowl (pattern: Willow Cowl; yarn: Malabrigo Sock in Cote d’Azure)

soft, frothy and warm

now for the yarn:

just got my free skein of Dream in Color Smooshy from Eat.Sleep.Knit.’s yarn lotto! I chose Lunar Zazzle. Its a beautiful seaglass blue, green, purple-y varigated.

Malabrigo Rios in Indiecita for Baby B’s blanket and sweater

Sublime baby cashmerino silk dk in a Navy/French Blue color for the center of Baby B’s blanket

Malabrigo Worsted in Azul Bolita for an Abalone (?)

it’s hard to capture the deep saturated color of this yarn, its gorgeous, and its really hard to believe i like it so much, i normally knit with neutrals only!

Malabrigo Sock in Velvet Grapes

yay whim-yarn!

phew, that was a lot! can’t wait to get knitting…

hi, i’m Keelin, and I am a yarnaholic

*hi Keelin*

check what came in the mail today! i officially love (as if i didn’t love it before) Eat.Sleep.Knit.

two skeins of madelinetosh dk in Mansfield Garden Party (swoon!) for a(nother) honey cowl.

two skeins of Malabrigo Worsted in Marine for legwarmers of my own design for S, G, J and my dance piece in april.

two skeins of Malabrigo Worsted in Simply Taupe for F’s honey cowl or possibly a 5th Avenue Infinity Scarf if the honey comb patterning gets too boring for me…

and the teeniest tiniest skein EVER of Malabrigo Lace in Mariposa, which i may add is the single most gorgeous colorway of Mal, for a Swallowtail Shawl or something. The teals in the Mariposa match the Blue Sky Alpaca Worsted Cotton for my Que Sera perfectly. Slight warmth in the spring, yippee!

For now, I’m plugging along on my Willow Cowl and waiting for my scratch off lotto tickets from ESK (oh yeah, did I mention I won a free skein of Dream in Color Smooshy and $5 of credit) to get there and for my free loot to come back!

hope you got some yarny goodness in the middle of all this snow and ice!

oh, willow.

February 3, 2011

after dorcas weekend (people bought my hats!) and this crazy, work-filled week of ridiculousness, i finished my new design (sorry, no pictures, lee says i should submit it to knitty or knitscene so no can do!) and started something i didn’t have to write myself.

the Willow Cowl.

(yarn is Malabrigo Sock in Cote d’Azure)

I was so fed up with the Navy Lace Ribbon Scarf ( I had already frogged it twice and i was never EVER going to finish it and the yarn was just toooo beautiful to let sit in the WIP pile) that i frogged it finally and chose something new to use it for, something I knew I would always wear. Knowing my love (and possible addiction to) cowls, that when i found this pattern i knew it would be perfect. Has just enough interest to keep me interested and just simple enough to show off the gorgeous, gorgeous colorway that i had originally fell in love with in Knitwits.

check back tommorow, i have two, yes count ’em, two boxes from Eat.Sleep.Knit. sitting in the PO Box! To make it sweeter, I hit the 1 mile mark in the Yarn Marathon! I promise some pictures and some details as well as plans for projects!
