December 27, 2010

December 23rd shall now be known as the day of the LYS.

for christmas, due to an apparent lack of good presents for me my mother and i journeyed to knitwits. a lovely yarn store where i managed to spend $143 in a matter of 20 minutes. now, most knitters will attest that this is a simple task. and yes, i must agree that with malabrigo at your fingertips and cold best friends with christmas around the corner, or you know, dangling right in front of your nose, it is indeed easy.

So i did. and check out what i got:

this is the whole shebang. now the breakdown:

Malabrigo Rasta in Azules

Malabrigo Rasta in Solis

Misti Alpaca Chunky (I still can’t figure out how to flip the images)

Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca Grande

Malabrigo Silky Merino in Dill

Malabrigo Silky Merino in Nocturnal

and finally, just because it was the most gorgeous skein of navy blue (the picture doesn’t do this colorway justice at all.) some Malabrigo Sock in Cote d’Azure for me. the others are for my chilly best friends who call me an old granny but secretly appreciate my knitting skills.

And then came christmas.

So other than a slew of WEBS and Knitwits giftcards to further my yarn addiction I now own every single book that Stephanie Pearl-McPhee (aka the Yarn Harlot) ever wrote. have I ever said how freaking hilarious she is? but anywho I also was able to convince my mother to supply my Effortless Cardigan (pattern by Hannah Fettig). Five skeins of madelinetosh dk in gossamer. I already started 😉

merry christmas to all! i hope yarn-santa was good to you.

i’ve grown up around football. but not just any football, New York Football.

as in

NEW YORK GIANTS FOOTBALL.
none other, nothing better.
yet, they have been better. Lots better.
i went to the game on sunday, we have season tickets; always have. All was well until, as D says, the last 8 minutes. Up until them, we were crushing the Eagles, and i mean crushing. And these are the Eagles were talking about. You know, our arch-nemises. Well, maybe I’m making this sound slightly similar to a high-drama cartoon. But still. We were crushing the Eagles. Which is good, because that means we had a shot at the Division title. YAY PLAYOFFS! But alas, they screwed up. And no, they did not make a silly little mistake, not just a little tiny error. They screwed themselves on this one. We had a three touchdown lead, which they let go, and that would have been kind of okay, (well no it actually sucked) but they didn’t leave it at that. No, they fumbled on a punt return at the last couple of seconds of the game to allow the Eagles to run it back and score in the last play of the game.
Yes, they did.
Not kidding, wish I was.
So unless we somehow beat the Packers and the Redskins (whom we killed two weeks ago, so thats not particularly my biggest worry) we have just thrown away our chances of the playoffs.
AWESOME.
On the contrary, my father’s Christmas present is finally finished, but sans pom-poms. Once they are finished I’ll get pictures. Maybe even “in action” shots. Cool, huh?

i would fail at it. well, i do fail at it.

i’ve had about 5 blogs and i haven’t managed to keep up with any of them. but i’ve been keeping up with my knitting (yay!) and i’ve been reading all of my favorite knitting blogs. (Yarn Harlot, Knitbot, Through the Loops and Leeleetea just to name a few) and I decided that I need to get on track and make my own.

So here we are.

I’ve been knitting like a madwoman, finishing hat after cowl after sweater. Its the only way I stay sane at school. Here are a few of my recent FOs.
My Huaraz Hat (rav link sorry) using Malabrigo Worsted in Natural, and some Mal Silky Merino in Archangel for the pom poms
My Merry Christmas Santa Hat using Mal Worsted in Sealing Wax and Natural (held double)
My Cabled Cardi in KnitPicks Merino Style in Hawk

I’ve been working on my Christmas knitting, during which craziness will always ensue. Some WIP posts and (hopefully) some FO reports to come. You know, in between all the craziness.
